This article shows why it is generally not a good idea to register your domains with your sites web hosting provider. There are plenty of external registrars who will be happy to register your site. Here are the reasons in short form and in no particular order are:

A German should register domain as an external domain in their systems, however only in very rare cases a problem. Especially for web hosting in the U.S. external, German registrars are therefore essential.
