Colocated hosting refers to the provisioning of data center space, bandwidth, and basic system monitoring. Colocation is for those companies, business or individuals that need more security or special hardware in their server in order for them to achieve what other servers can't. Colocation is similar to hosting with the exception that you own the servers.

The hosting company provides a connection to the Internet, bandwidth, redundant electrical connections, physical security and rack space in which to mount your servers. Data center space is typically rented based on racks or square footage. The customer is responsible for all configuration, administration, management, and maintenance of the hardware and software specific to its application or system.

Colocation allows businesses an alternative to costly facilities improvements and server space requirements for effectively securing hardware, providing redundant connectivity and implementing effective data backup and recovery strategies.
