Do you really understand the basics of the internet? Do you think it’s a mysterious secret how all those words have found their way from someone’s computer in Fiji all the way to your computer in Boston? Or vice versa? Well, it’s not really such a mystery and it can be explained in a basic way in just a few understandable words.

Ok, you’re in Fiji keeping a journal (blog) of all the great fauna and flora that grow there in abundance. And you want to share your wonder, awe and observations with the rest of the world. So you create a blog, but now you need a way to get all those words onto the internet. In other words, you need a web hosting company. A web hosting company lets you rent disk space on its computer and gives you other services which give allows access to your web site on the internet to the entire world.

Web hosting companies usually charge a fee, although there are some services that are free. And there are thousands of companies to choose from, making deciding on a hosting company a daunting task without more information about what you are choosing from. Be aware that free hosting has limits and conditions that might not be acceptable to you. For instance, you might not want advertisements to appear on your blog, but free hosting companies often require that ads appear. Also, free hosts often limit disk space and bandwidth, making it difficult, if not impossible to include videos, or other heavy graphics on to your site. And what if you have this great, hour long video of a rare bird feeding her babies in their nest? You will just have to wait until your back in Boston giving a lecture to the Audubon Society, and there goes all the usefulness of the internet.

Web Hosting Tips

This article shows why it is generally not a good idea to register your domains with your sites web hosting provider. There are plenty of external registrars who will be happy to register your site. Here are the reasons in short form and in no particular order are:

* What happens if you take a stress has with his web host? If one is not agreed on contracts, want to cancel because of poor accessibility, or just fed up of bad has support? When you have registered its domain now at Hoster, you must fill out to transfer the domain to another hosting a so-called CC-application. And now it is: This application must be processed and approved by the current host. And who believes that the host wants to do now, where perhaps it is in conflict with? Many web hosting providers for doing just that in such a situation does not has to be agreed. Often to the detriment of the customer who wants so simply that his side as soon as possible reached.

Quite unlike the situation when one has registered his site with an external registrar: simple new account with a different (and hopefully create a better web host) and the Registrar’s IP address to domain change – and no later than 24 hours is the page in the world the new IP reachable and the old host has nothing to blackmail in the hand to its customers.

* You need not go so far as to impute to the web hosting malice – but it is also so ever that such a host goes bankrupt and its server must be shutdown. And who believes that the turmoil in the bankruptcy is still much time to fill in and accept your KK-application with which you can finally put their side on another server? Again, the solution with the external registrar is to be preferred: single IP Conversion, and already you are back in business …

* Maybe it is indeed the idea came to have its website hosted on a foreign server. Just hosting in the U.S. is based on the current dollar exchange rate a very good idea. The problem is that the providers understand German abroad only in the rarest cases and are therefore also difficult to do in order to process a German KK-application. A German should register domain as an external domain in their systems, however only in very rare cases a problem. Especially for web hosting in the U.S. external, German registrars are therefore essential. Among the external features to the web host registration is no difference at all, incidentally, as it enters the domain in his system. So that they can then be used as normal and with all the features.

Some are now perhaps more than last question: What is the cost? Where external registrars not more expensive? What one can only reply: so a domain will cost in most cases less than 8  a year. This much should a website be the availability of its already worth it.
